it finally happened

Someone asked if I was Joey's sister! yikes!

Sorry I haven't been online much. Just getting into the swing of things in our new place. The kids are doing wonderful, aside from Lincoln being sick.

Emma no longer uses a baba. I told her in the months before the move that we would be moving and that the new house doesn't have any babas and we can't bring her old ones with us. When we moved I left them behind at our old place. Emma didn't ask for them once - not even at bedtime! I figured it would be an out of sight out of mind thing, but I was still nervous about it. Emma's new thing is "what" as in "what happened?" and "whats wrong?" and "whats that?" It's really fun to see how much she is talking now. She counts from 1-10 in spanish - she does pretty good with english too but hasn't mastered it yet, she is getting better with her colors and shapes too. She knows over 40 signs, and her vocabulary is growing so quickly I can't keep up with it all. She loves to point out all her body parts, and she asks for "hug" frequently. Potty training hasn't been going so well since we moved, but we are working on it - with her and with Joey.

Joey is doing excellent at school. His teacher thinks the diet is doing him wonders, and wants to try it with her own daughter now. Some of her friends want to try it with their kids as well. It is truly amazing what change has taken in him since he started this GFCF diet. I'm getting better at cooking GFCF too.

Lincoln was SO sick the other day. Burning up with a fever and extremely lethargic. He wouldn't sit up or roll over or anything, he just laid there either asleep, or awake with his eyes half open. He didn't smile or cry, he whimpered a few times and when I tried to nurse him he barely ate then threw it all up. When I gave him tylenol, he threw that up within seconds after I gave it to him. I just felt horrible for him. but he started to get better about 12 hours into it and within 24 hours he was 100% better. Must have been a 24 hour virus.

So that is what is new and not so exciting with us! I will try to catch up with the blogs I follow later today :)

We Moved!

We are finally mostly settled in our new place. I love this house! Lots of storage, and plenty of room for the kids to play indoors and out. It's very easy to baby proof this place also. The kids adjusted wonderfully. They both love it here... Joey has been AWESOME since we got here, both at home and at school. Emma was fine without having her bottle as well.. I hope that keeps up!! It's very easy to keep this place clean as well, since I have the space I don't have to worry about clutter!

We do have to finish the fence in the backyard still, and some other small details, like I want to put new blinds in the kids rooms, and also hand up nicer curtains in the dining room. We did get a kitchen table for $100 at walmart and a couch off craigslist for $50 - it might be super retro but its in excellent excellent condition and its a sleeper sofa too which is ideal for us.

Vent Against Spanking

I just read something about a boy who was spanked with a belt and had bruises on the back and cried to the school nurse about it. Once in court they determined it was "just a spanking" this child was sent home to his parents where he was continued to be beat, urinated on, and burned with cigarettes on his private parts

This is a perfect example of why spanking should be illegal. I understand most parents dont spank that way but there is too much room for interpretation in the legal system. Keep it simple - no hitting children. You can't hit your neighbor, your spouse, your parents, you bank teller, etc... the same should apply to children. I DO NOT think it is infringing on the rights of parents - you can STILL discipline your child - you just can't hit them. - why is hitting a child so important to some people

for the sake of those that ARE being abused and "flying under the radar" can't people just accept the idea of banning spanking - there ARE other things - things that aren't dangerous AT ALL and DO work. many options in fact! I just don't understand why anyone can justify spanking - even just a tap on the hand or a swat on the bottom - there are other ways! spanking doesn't even work in the long term. and even in moderation can hurt a child physically or emotionally. and many children are DYING from being abused because the law can't figure out the difference between a spanking and child abuse and where to draw the line. ITS JUST NOT NECESSARY. thats all it boils down to!! Why hit your child when you can get the same and BETTER results without hitting them? It is purely for parental satisfaction. Children are people too.

People say that is taking away the parents right. How so? Was it taking away the white mans rights to create equality with black people? was it taking away a mans right by outlawing them from hitting their wives? It's not taking away rights from the parents by banning spanking - its enforcing the rights of children as HUMAN CITIZENS. Children - the most vulnerable, the most valuable, the least protected, the least respected.

Look What Lincoln Can Do 5 1/2 months now :)

know (from experience) it doesn't mean much, but he can stand for a short time unassisted! In these first pictures, he is getting support from the wall behind him...

In these pictures I helped him catch his balance first, but he did pretty good once I let go. He can only stand momentarily - maybe 5 seconds at most - he thinks its really funny, and laughs when he does topple over. We discovered his love to do this accidentally, originally with him facing away from me and playing with Emma I would let go to help Emma because she would be playing too rough with him.. and he would lean his back against me and stand... then he was trying to stand on his own!

Here he is falling...

Here he is afterward - all smiles! His "squealy laugh" tells me he thinks this is fun!

More Sitting Up! He's gotten REALLY good at this!

Laying Around - Lincoln has actually found his feet but he likes to grab them when he is sitting up, or press the soles of his feet together or "clap his feet" it's adorable!

I went to do the dishes and came back to this:

It's not that Lincoln is the easiest baby ever- maybe it looks that way in pictures - but I am really in tune with him... so I know when I can put him down and how for him to fall asleep on his own without crying. It's not an exact science... CIO is not necessary, ever.
