An update on Joey starting school

Joey will start school August 18th. It's the 3-5 program and it will be full time from 8am-2pm monday-friday. It's a bittersweet thing, but I know this is what is best for him. We have reviewed his progress since being in the Early Steps Program, and he is doing well but is still pretty delayed in all areas. Joey is 34 Months old now, and his Language skills are equivalent to an 18 month old. His cognitive development is at 22 months. Physical Development is at 25 months. Social-Emotional Development is at 20 months. This program, called the Place program, is basically a preschool program that is focused on helping children just like Joey get ready for Kindergarten so *hopefully* they will not need any additional services by time they reach school age. There will be a huge focus on language, and they have other goals as well. They will be working on potty training him, helping him to have a longer more age appropriate attention span, as well as some pre-writing skills, numbers, alphabet, shapes, colors, and other "preschool things". This could really be the turning point for him, so I've very excited for that reason - but it will be sad not having him home with me and in a way I feel robbed because he is supposed to be at home with me full time until he is 5! I'm losing 2 years here! I can't wait for my little boy to improve his language skills though!! As I said, bittersweet... I have a feeling Joey is going to LOVE it all though!

I understand the bittersweetness of it. It is good that he got into the program though. It sounds like this school will be a good fit. I can't believe he will start in a month. Is he starting early or do all of the school there start then? Keep me posted!

Schools here start in August instead of September. He is starting early age wise but thats because its a special program.
