Vent Against Spanking

I just read something about a boy who was spanked with a belt and had bruises on the back and cried to the school nurse about it. Once in court they determined it was "just a spanking" this child was sent home to his parents where he was continued to be beat, urinated on, and burned with cigarettes on his private parts

This is a perfect example of why spanking should be illegal. I understand most parents dont spank that way but there is too much room for interpretation in the legal system. Keep it simple - no hitting children. You can't hit your neighbor, your spouse, your parents, you bank teller, etc... the same should apply to children. I DO NOT think it is infringing on the rights of parents - you can STILL discipline your child - you just can't hit them. - why is hitting a child so important to some people

for the sake of those that ARE being abused and "flying under the radar" can't people just accept the idea of banning spanking - there ARE other things - things that aren't dangerous AT ALL and DO work. many options in fact! I just don't understand why anyone can justify spanking - even just a tap on the hand or a swat on the bottom - there are other ways! spanking doesn't even work in the long term. and even in moderation can hurt a child physically or emotionally. and many children are DYING from being abused because the law can't figure out the difference between a spanking and child abuse and where to draw the line. ITS JUST NOT NECESSARY. thats all it boils down to!! Why hit your child when you can get the same and BETTER results without hitting them? It is purely for parental satisfaction. Children are people too.

People say that is taking away the parents right. How so? Was it taking away the white mans rights to create equality with black people? was it taking away a mans right by outlawing them from hitting their wives? It's not taking away rights from the parents by banning spanking - its enforcing the rights of children as HUMAN CITIZENS. Children - the most vulnerable, the most valuable, the least protected, the least respected.

Look What Lincoln Can Do 5 1/2 months now :)

know (from experience) it doesn't mean much, but he can stand for a short time unassisted! In these first pictures, he is getting support from the wall behind him...

In these pictures I helped him catch his balance first, but he did pretty good once I let go. He can only stand momentarily - maybe 5 seconds at most - he thinks its really funny, and laughs when he does topple over. We discovered his love to do this accidentally, originally with him facing away from me and playing with Emma I would let go to help Emma because she would be playing too rough with him.. and he would lean his back against me and stand... then he was trying to stand on his own!

Here he is falling...

Here he is afterward - all smiles! His "squealy laugh" tells me he thinks this is fun!

More Sitting Up! He's gotten REALLY good at this!

Laying Around - Lincoln has actually found his feet but he likes to grab them when he is sitting up, or press the soles of his feet together or "clap his feet" it's adorable!

I went to do the dishes and came back to this:

It's not that Lincoln is the easiest baby ever- maybe it looks that way in pictures - but I am really in tune with him... so I know when I can put him down and how for him to fall asleep on his own without crying. It's not an exact science... CIO is not necessary, ever.

More Lincoln Pictures, and an Emma pic...
